Old Tailem Town: Tick

I’d driven past time and time again, and finally someone suggested that I visit Old Tailem Town in Tailem Bend!

Mr. Peter Squires was lovely enough to show me around and let me know how Old Tailem Town came to be!

Very interesting – also picked up a book called ‘Place names of Australia’ by A.W Reed from a bric-a-brac table!  Did you know about Tailem Bend:

Donald Gollen, an early settler, first called his run “Pine Camp”, then Taleam.  It has been suggested that as stock were herded or ‘tailed’ here when being driven overland from New South Wales to Victoria and South Australia, this may haven been the origin of the name.  The town was proclaimed in 1887.
